HCL Placement Paper : HCL ISD Allahabad 24 September 2012

I was expecting either TCS or INFOSYS to be the first company @ my campus to start up with the recruitment but they landed up in getting a deal with HCL ISD. I am pursuing my Bachelor,s in Electronics & Communications Engineering from United College of Engineering & Research, Allahabad and the drive was for all the eligible students from ,UNITED GROUP OF INSTITUTIONS,.

The rounds were a bit shocking for some students. Now why I said some because I came to know about the rounds some days prior to the arrival of HCL in our campus, by visiting indiabix.com and so did some other students. They were expecting a normal recruitment process consisting of an aptitude and an interview round but on the day 1 itself everyone came to know that its going to be a 5 round process and will go on for 2 more days. It was a 3 day process full of fun actually.

ROUNDS:
1- GRAMMER TEST(20 questions in 15 minutes )
2- FACE to FACE Communication
3- Technical Interview
4- HR Interview
5- AMCAT based ONLINE TEST

ROUND 1 was easy to clear as it was not that difficult as we generally expect it to be.The cut-off i guess was 12 to get through, and I got maximum 20 in that round. Literally speaking, after that round i was much more confident about the whole process.
(approx 350 out of 550 cleared this round)

ROUND 2 was all about speaking anything but sensible. The whole idea about this round was to know weather the student is able to speak or not. Yeah, you can relate it to a kind of extempore. Students were called in a group of 16-18 and then the HR spoke to everyone one by one. Before my turn , i came to know that the common question being asked to everyone was,

,,How was the first year experience and how is the life in college different from your school life?,,

I started recollecting thoughts of my experience in first year but that didn,t help me out because as expected I was asked with a different question. As my turn came I went in with a group of 18 students. It was fortunate enough for me that i wasn,t the first to start up with the conversation. It was altogether a different set of questions being asked to everyone in my group. Some topics which students were asked to speak on were,
-Ragging
-Arrange marriage vs Love Marriage
-Advertisement

I was asked to share what i have gained in past 3 years of my college life.

I spoke about confidence with all the experience I had in coordinating and organising events so spoke of everything related to that.

Next question was related to my resume about my trip to BANGKOK last month. I was prepared for that and told everything I experienced out there.
The topics were easy but we had to speak on for (say 2-3 minutes). This round went to next day till 4am. I was once again fortunate as i was done with this round by 7 pm on the same day, went back home, had a tight sleep as i was already prepared for the technical and HR rounds scheduled on next day.
(80 cleared this round).

In ROUND 3, i had to wait for my turn till 4 pm. Both the rounds were scheduled on the same day. I was asked everything related to computers. At one point, I had to speak that for this interview I have prepared basics of C, electronics & a bit of networking as the company is based on networking but the HR told me she is not aware of electronics and again started asking me about computers.

Some topics were,
-OSI
-LAN vs WAN
-RAM vs HDD
-Latest OS
-About Processors

and many more but everything related to computers. I felt unlucky but replied everything politely and in full confidence, even at times i gave the wrong answer and explained about it like whatever i am saying is right but it was idiotic on my part.

The HR had a smile and said, Mr. Arjit, are you sure about your answer?
I felt a bit relaxed with her smile and said..yea, may be ma,am.

Meanwhile some idiot rang me up for 10 times. My phone was on silent mode but still i had to pull up my leg a bit to reduce the vibration of phone call, it was a weird situation for me. I was asked to leave then.

To my surprise, I was through to the next round.
By the way, there were 3 HR,s in all and it was on luck which HR you gonna get. Others asked about C language, DBMS, JAVA, NETWORKING,etc.
Was i lucky then??? I leave it to you.

ROUND 4, the HR Interview, I,ll go directly with the questions,
-Tell me about yourself?
-About hobbies?
-Role model?
-Why HCL?
-Strengths & Weakenesses?
-Why dip in percentage?
and many more but related to resume.
(38 went on to clear both the rounds)

ROUND 5 was an AMCAT based online test consisting of 3 sections,

-Verbal Section
-Logical Reasoning
-Quantitative aptitude

There was no negative marking and we were not able to skip any question in between, had to attempt all.
Verbal section was full of synonyms and antonyms, reading comprehension, etc

Logical Reasoning was all about puzzles, statements & conclusions & Syllogism.
Quantitative section had simple questions .

HCL Placement Paper : HCL Technologies Interview Nitte 12 November 2011

I,m from Computer Science branch, NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte. We actually had a direct interview meaning that no aptitude test at all. So I,m very very happy 4 that. The biggest problem for me is clearing Aptitude tests.

I,m not good at aptitude tests. HCL gave 1 greatest opportunity of the life time. I just grabbed it.

They can ask anything about OOPS(C++), Data Structures, Computer Networks, C, OS, Database (All Basic concepts)

3 things to be considered if you want to be in HCL. (or in any company)
1) Just Be Confident in whatever u say even u don,t know.
2)"Communication Skills" most important.
3) Prepare every thing whatever you write in "Resume"

Interview Started at 11:15 AM
For me,
Me: May I come in Sir
HR: Yes. Take your seat.
Me: Thank You sir
HR: Tell me about yourself
Me: Told my name, place, study, family background, academic marks, academic projects, etc (Min 1min 30sec)
(HR was looking at my resume about whatever I said about my marks, projects)
HR: You are in 7th semester right. What are the subjects are you studying in 7th Semester?
Me: I told Object Oriented Modelling and Design(OOMD), Business Intelligence(BI), C#, Advanced Computer Architecture(ACA), Web 2.0, Cryptography and Network Security(CNS).
(I didn,t prepare for any of these 7th sem subjects)
HR: Tell me about OOPS concepts.
Me: Told Inheritance, Polymorphism, Data Encapsulation and Abstraction with explanation.
( Please don,t say Object Oriented Programming.(1 of my friend lost HCL because of this silly answer) Tell what are the concepts under that. They didn,t give me any pen or paper so I used some kind of guesters to explain what I want to say )
HR: You are in 7th semester right? OK Tell me What is that Business Intelligence?
Me: Told with an example.
(HR seemed very happy with my explanation. Tell you what? HR didn,t about it. I need to make HR understand)
HR: Describe Cryptography?
Me: Told with an example.
HR: You attended a seminar on Cloud Computing right. Can you tell me what it is?
Me: Explained
(This is from the resume. If you write any thing on Cloud Computing in your resume. Its 100% sure that they will ask what it is? irrespective of the company)
HR: Ok Fine..
Me: I asked How was my interview sir? I want to improve myself.
HR: Interview went very well.
(This I asked just to get a clue about whether I can be selected or not? HR is about to finish my interview)
Me: Sir I have a question
HR: Ya Ofcourse
Me: Sir, I have 2-3 months of holidays after my graduation? Can I do some preparation before joining the company.
HR: You should be good at programming bla bla....
(HR didn,t tell me to ask some questions. I asked. This I did just to make HR speak so that atleast he will forget if I said something wrong or something he didn,t like it)
Me: Thank You Sir
Interview ended at 11:35 AM

Interview went very well according to me. Still I had a doubt whether I spoke too much? But In the beginning of the interview itself they told if you want to be in HCL You should "SPEAK".

For my friends,
They asked about bubble sort tracing, OS concepts like memory management techniques etc, Java concepts like throw and throws, JVM etc. CN concepts like OSI layer. Data Structure concepts like singly, doubly, circular linked list and also what is binary tree? Database concepts like normalization Some small C codes etc.....

For EC,EEE braches,
basic knowledge about your related subjects. May be OOPS concepts and C codes...

Your Choice of location and Joining date as your wish (called "TOPPERS SHOP"). I don,t think every college will get this kind of offer.

Answer the question based on the given passage

Management is a set of processes that can keep a complicated system of people and technology running smoothly. The most important aspects of management include planning, budgeting, organising, staffing, controlling, and problem-solving. Leadership is a set of processes that creates organisations in the first place or adapts them to significantly changing circumstances. Leadership defines what the future should look like, aligns people with that vision, and inspires them to make it happen despite the obstacles. This distinction is absolutely crucial for our purposes here: Successful transformation is 70 to 90 per cent leadership and only 10 to 30 percent management. Yet for historical reasons, many organisations today don,t have much leadership. And almost everyone thinks about the problem here as one of managing change. For most of this country, as we created thousands and thousands of large organisations for the first time in human history, we didn,t have enough good managers to keep all those bureaucracies functioning. So many companies and universities developed management programs and hundreds and thousands of people were encouraged to learn management on the job. And they did. But, people were taught little about leadership. To some degree, management was emphasised because it,s easier to teach than leadership. But even more so, management was the main item on the twentieth-century agenda because that,s what was needed. For every entrepreneur or business builder who was a leader, we needed hundreds of managers to run their ever-growing enterprises. Unfortunately for us today, this emphasis on management has often been institutionalised in corporate cultures that discourage employees from learning how to lead. Ironically, past success is usually the key ingredient in producing this outcome. The syndrome, as I have observed it on many occasions, goes like this: success creates some degree of marked dominance which in turn produces much growth. After a while keeping the ever-larger organisation under control becomes the primary challenge. So attention turns inward and managerial competencies are nurtured. With a strong emphasis on management but not leadership, bureaucracy and an inward focus takeover. But with continued success, the result mostly of market dominance, the problem often goes unaddressed and an unhealthy arrogance begins to evolve. All of these characteristics then make any transformation effort much more difficult. Arrogant managers can over-evaluate their current performance and competitive position, listen poorly and learn slowly. Inwardly focused employees can have difficulty seeing the very forces that present threats and opportunities. Bureaucratic cultures can smother those who want to respond to shifting conditions. And the lack of leadership leaves no force inside these organisations to break out of the morass.

HCL Placement Paper : HCL MAIT - 30 August 2011

HCL Technologies came to our colg. on 30th Aug, 2011. We were very lucky that the comapany didn,t conducted any type of test for the recruitment process. we just got this info, a one day earlier, so we just prepared for the Interview.

First, there was a brief presentation form the company about the objectives, want they are expecting from us etc. A key point in that was the Bond for 18 months costing 1Lakh, rest other things were pretty much same like other companies.
We were around 200 students who sat for the Interview process. The process began at around 11am.

there were around 15 representatives form HCL. the Interview was, one on one basis. There was only one Interview, it can be HR or Technical depending upon your luck as told by our placement coordinators. My name came around 2.30, and I was lucky that I was called after lunch. The guy was a young person around 28 I guess, he was very cool. The interaction with him began like this.

Interviewer: How are you?
Me: fine, was waiting for my turn.

Interviewer: so, tell me something about you which is not mentioned in your CV?
me: i got confused as what to tell him which in not mentioned over there, but i thought for a while then told him about my interest, what i did in my past in college etc...

he was just listening me up, not even nodding or looking at me, was just viewing my CV.

Interviewer: tell me something about HCL.
me: i just read one day before about the company profile, told him the 2-3 key points about the company. Friends, don,t forget to see the company profile, they will definitely ask this to you.

Interviewer: So, why should I hire you?
me: mentioned that i like this thing about company, told stuffs like am team player, adjust well in team etc.
this time, he nodded at my answer, my confidence grew by that.

Interviewer: So, what king of latest update you heard in the mobile Industry?
me: thought for a while, and then I asked sir, are you talking about Android? he said yes.....
I knew many thing about Android, told him about that, but when I told him the latest version name and umber, he smiled, as saying that you know alot. :) :)

Interviewer: so, what makes it different form Symbian.??
me: told about it, its Nokia OS, etc...

Interviewer: are you willing to be reallocated anywhere or work in shifts?
me: all yes sir.. :) :)

Interviewer: tell me something about your family.
me: told briefly.

my interview was all HR kind like, with only one semi-technical thing about Android.

At last he said thanks for the interview, you can leave now. I thanked him, and then left the room.
we waited for the results till evening but around 5 pm it was announced that it will not come today, but in 2-3 days....

After 2 days, it was there, my name was there, I was very happy to see my name for the first time, as I was not able to made it to Infosys and Accenture. this was the first company. They hired 86 people from our college.
Am, happy that I was selected, and HAPPY to be MR."HCL" now. So, friends meet you up in HCL, bye.... for now

HCL Placement Paper : HCL Saveetha Engineering College - 9 October 2010

I m here to share my experience that how I got into HCL Technologies.

First of all I have read .com members post before facing the interview process. So thanks to all those who have came forward and share their experience which gave me lot of confidence.

Three Rounds Was there in the selection process.
1.Aptitude
2.Technical GD
3.HR Interview.

1st round is Aptitude Section Where there will be a total of 105 questions to answer in online with 107 minutes time.
This round is split into four categories.
1.Logical
2.Verbal
3.Analytical
4.Pgmming(pnli few questions)

Prepare from agarwal book

If u clear this round u r place is 75% confirmed.

2nd Round is Tech GD, Where they gave topic for me as...

Why is pgmming language neccessary, Which pgmming lang u prefer and what are all its adv and disadv,s?

As I m the first guy sitting close to the panel members I was d first guy to start the GD. I was nervous and with the topic Icant able to deliver it on the first attempt, after giving intro abt the topic, then we started to debate that which pgmming is best and that point of time I didnt stop talking as I continuously interrupted and also not against the other team members comments.
So in my selection process there were 13 guys in GD and 7 got selected, those 7 were the one,s who talked much repetitively during the GD. In some selection process, they didnt select those who talked much. So look for ur team members how they are talking and respond to the situation.
I dont have any hope in my selection through the GD as I talked much but without much content and fluency, but once d result got out in 10 mins I was on cloud nine that I have finally made into HCL as the final round is just like a formality to end up the interview process by filling up the form.

3rd and Final round is HR interview.. it was more like a simple interaction with HR persons, once u clear GD, u r through to HCL, they consider u as their employee and interacts with us, it was a funny incident for me as the HR asked me ques like who is best sachin or pointing kinda questions and he handshaked me atlast and he replied we will get u back soon.

After a Week I got confirmation Mail from HCL that I have been selected.

The first round happend 20 days before the 2nd round and results came after 15 days only Iwas pretty confident that I ll get through in apps as have prepared well in few imp topics.

So have enough confidence to face the challenge. U ll definetely get through, Hope to meet u here
