Hi this is kareem.........TESCO is the world,s 3rd largest retail store....its competetor is WALL-MART(ASDA).......I attended the TESCO interview on 23rd and 24rth of august 2008 at cresent eng coll(chennai)....the following is the selection process

1.GENERAL APPTITUDE
2. HR + TECHNICAL (TECHNICAL is dominant here)
3.HR + TECHNICAL ( HR is dominant)

1. GENERAL APPTITUDE: 3 sections
a) verbal------------- fill ups,2 compositions, meanings etc.....(its quite easy)
b) analytical------------ venn diagram,problems on cubes (TOUGHEST PART)etc......( i found this section a little tough)
c) logical--------------- coding and decoding, statements and conclusion, similarities etc (this section was easy

i cleared apps and entered 2nd round.

2.HR+TECHNICAL:(TECHNICAL DOMINANT)
both HR and TECH was held together..... HR was very easy.... they just asked
*RUSH THROUGH YOUR RESUME
*DO U WANT TO HAVE SNACKS NOW?(......... this is a trap...... so dont agree to consume any snacks in front of HR....i just smiled and said....."THANK YOU MAM FOR YOUROFFER...BUT U MUST BE HUNGRY THAN ME... SO U HAVE IT")

After that a lot of technical questions were asked mainly from......

a) SOFTWARE ENGINEERING
what is software life cycle model?
what is V-model?

b) OOPS
concept of OOPS?
what is polymorphism and write a pgm based on it.

c) DATA STRUCTURE
write an algorithm for quick sorting.

d) FEW GENERAL QUESTION
how will you test your product before its launch?
what would you do if your product fails in the market?

i did well and got through to the 3rd round....... in 2nd round its necessary to act like a professional even if you dont know the answer

3) HR+ TECHNICAL (HR dominant)
* Tell me about yourself in brief.
* Your hobbies?
* You were the captain of your football team at school and u have won the competetion for them, how did u manage to do it?( since i had wriiten i was a captain of my school football team and all these in resume the HR asked this question)
* what is OOPS?
* difference b/w function overloading and function overriding?
* Are you willing to relocate to bangalore?
* You want to ask any questions regarding TESCO?

TESCO PEPER ON 12th NOVEMBER

As all of you know, last sunday i.e., 12th November 2006 I had campus recruitment by TESCO.



I am very happy to say that, I got selected.



I would like to share my experience with respect to written test as well as interview.



Cut off % was 70%. During ppt they have reduced to 69.5%.



I am frank with you that, I could not able to give exact questions. Just I put my experience with few words.



The recruitment process was conducted in THREE phases.

Written Test
Technical Interview
HR Interview

1. Written Test :



Test was conducted by MeritTrack. The test pattern includes three sections of different papers. They are Veral Ability, Analytical and Logical Reasoning.



Verbal Ability:

The first few questions were on synonyms type.
The second section, choosing an appropriate articles.
Third and fourth sections were paragraphs ( two paragraphs), one on E - Commerce and another on DBMS.



Analytical Reasoning:

· In this section,some questions were very easy, and some were confusing. I would like to suggest you that, donot attend this section initially, because it consumes more time.

· First 5 to 6 questions were based on Vendiagrams ( Refer R. S. Agarwal Verbal & Non - Verbal Reasoning ==> Puzzle Test chapter), Percentage and profit loss.

· Another 5 questions on BODMAS rule. It was very easy. but it was at the end of Anylytical Reasoning section. I would like to suggest you that, try to attend such questions initially, because it saves lot of time.

· Another 5 questions on replacing 0 with * and 1 with $. I would like to give a hint to solve this is, what ever the type of equation given, first solve it. And finally you will get one decimal number. Then convert this decimal number to equalent binary form. Finally replace 0 with * and 1 with $. Definately you will get the required result.

· Last 5 to 6 questions on Cubes ( Refer R. S. Agarwal Verbal & Non - Verbal Reasoning)



Logical Reasoning:

Ø This section is more time cosuming compare to other two sections. Even though, number of questions is very less, but all are lengthy questions and alloted time is very less.

Ø Here one problem on Decision making ( Refer R. S. Agarwal Verbal & Non - Verbal Reasoning )

Ø Coding and Decoding

Ø Visibility test ( three 10 - 15 digit numbers have given, just find out which are same, and which are different), it was very easy.



2. Technical interview:

Technical Interview was very cool. it was not much difficult. It was about 20 to 25 minutes.


There were two persons in the interview panel.

let me put some questions asked in the technical round.

Tell me about your self.
Asked about engineering branch in B.E., and specialization in M.Tech.
In my resume I put 4 project. one project on networking, another one is my B.E., Academic project, third is project on Web design, last one is DBMS project.
He was asked to explain all the project.
some question on tools used. I used Flux software in my academic project. He was asked about the usage of flux software. Basically this Flux software is used for text animation. It takes any string (text message) as an input, and gives animated output.
Conver 13 into binary ( you need not calculate, up to 15 we can directly answer)
What is linked list ? What is use of linked list.
What do you mean by pointer variable ?
What is the difference between a pointer variable and an ordinary variable?
Which is your favorite subject ?...( I answered TCP / IP and networking)
Enlist OSI model layers ?.. I list 7 layers from bottom to top.
Some functionality of the layers and respecitve protocols.

3. H R Interview:
The HR interview was very cool. It was just a normal discussion.

Actually I had 1 year gap between B.E and M.Tech. He was asked about what were you doing ?...
What is your Father ? I told Agriculturist ( Former)
What is your Mother ? I told housewife.
Do you have brothers and sisters ? I told I have one elder brother and one youger brother.
What are they ( brothers) doing ?
Are your brothers married ?
Where did you do B.E., ? I told at Malnad College of Engineering, Hassan
Did you stayed in hostel ? I told at First year I stayed in private room, from second year onwards at government (BCM) hostel.
How was the food at hostel ?
Have you taken any Bank Loans for education ?
Which bank ?

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally the long wait is over i am i TESCO HSC now........ i was in exile for almost 6months after my final sem results......

i dont want to reveal my name and my college name for some personal reasons, but i would like to tell u that i finished my last round of interviews on A WEDNESDAY

THE PLACEMENT PROCESS



TESCO evaluates candidates in 4 rounds, each round is a elimination round

1. written test
2.Technical Interview
3.Managerial Interview
4.HR interview


WRITTEN TEST

TESCO has a unique kind of aptitude test they do not ask u those regular questions on profit/loss, time and work, speed,ratio.....and so on

written test consists 60q which have to be answered in 60 mins with 0.25 negative mark for each wrong ans,,

the first 15q would be on Blood relations, direction sense test and finding the next element in the series all the questions were easy, i could solve all 15

next few questions were on the verbal ability they would ask u 4q on Antonyms and synonyms which will be followed by
2 long paragraphs which i felt was a quite tough, infact i could not understand one of the paragraphs


next section was the data interpretation test they will give u 2 graphs and 4q on each of them, i was given a linegraph which was very easy to solve but the 2q on Bar graph was very difficult


one unique section in the written test that u will find only in TESCo would be the General Knowledge test, i will contain 20q
some questions were very easy like which company has the tagline "empowering people" (ans. HCL) but there were some tough questions as well,,, i could answer 12 out of 20q



TECHNICAL INTERVIEW

i was very fortunate enough for having cleared the written test......

as soon as i entered in the cabin he told me take a seat,,,,,,, and i replied thank u sir

sir: could you pls tell me abt yourslf briefly before we move on
me: answered ( most of the interviewers start with this ques so be prepared for this )

i have a drastic drop in my academic performance in B.E. when compared to my 10th and 12th so my next ques was to explain this....... so be prepared for ques like this


finally he started off with the tech questions
1q: tell me about ur project
2q:what all processors u know
3q: what do u mean by 4/16/32/64 bit microprocessors
4q: what is PCB
5q: he asked me to write and explain a prg in C
6q: few more questions on Basic C
7q:when i was answering the 6q he suddenly asked me "how often do u smoke" (i really do smoke") i was perplexed when he asked me this q but finally made up my mind and told him "yes" and he told me that i like ur frankness


8q: how good are you at Data structures ( i told him that i am from EC background and i have no idea abt DS)

9q: diff b/w c and c++ and wat is the concept of OOPS(brush up on concepts like polymorophism, dataencapsulation, inheritance, abstractionn,classes)

10q: what are the different sorting techniques u know ( i told him bubble/selection/insertion)

11q: he told me to explain bubble sort (he was impressed by my explanation)

12q: what do u know abt tesco

13q: any ques for me

14q: are you ready to work in shifts (i said "yes" but i am damn sure even the person who took my interview will not be ready to work in shifts)

finally he told me to wait outside for the next round


MANAGERIAL ROUND

i was called for the MR round after 30mins

i was asked all routine ques like 1.tell me about urself 2.why IT industry 3. i was again asked to exp drop in my %
4. wat is ur goal , ambition 5. why tesco 6. wat is ur achievement




HR ROUND


i was called for the final round at 2pm a person in his early 40,s took my interview it was more or less like the MR round



and finally results were announced i was in the list of selected candidates..........................



i am very glad that i have made it to tesco i hope its a grt company to build up my career,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
