Age Limit:

For Sub Officer -> 20 to 24 years as on 1st January 2020 (ie the candidate must be born on or before 0101.

2000and after 01011996)
For Constables and Fireman -> 18 to 25 years as on 1st January 2020 (ie.

the candidate must be born on or before 01012002 and after 01011995).

Essential Qualifications:

Constable of Police (Communication)	Matric with 12th class (10+2) Pass with Science subjects - Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM)
Constable of Police (UB) in APRO	Higher Secondary or Class-XII (Matric with 12th) class passed
Constable of Police (Messenger)	HSLC Pass or equivalent qualification with Driving license in Light Motor Vehicle and MMV
Constable of Police (Carpenter)	HSLC Passed or equivalent and passed prescribed ITI course in trade
Sub Officer	Matric with 12th class (Class-XII) Passed or equivalent (Science) having Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics (PCM).
Fireman	Class-XII passed (Science)

Before the advent of the British, there did not seem to be any organised police force in Assam, either under the Ahom Kings or earlier.The army as well as the various officers of the kingdom were responsible for the maintenance of peace and safeguarding the lives and properties of the people. Towards the end of the Ahom rule, during the reign of Kamaleswar Singha (1795-1811),an armed force on the British model was raised to serve the dual functions of maintenance of law and order and border defence. It was, however, not a regular and fully organised police force.
