All AIIMS Kalyani was officially approved under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) by the Union Cabinet on 07 October 2015. The institute was sanctioned to be set up on 179.82 acres of land. National Highway - at Basantpur village near Kalyani, district Nadia, West Bengal, about 50 km from Kolkata.

The Institute was established by the Central Government in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 3 of the All AIIMSAct, 1956 (25 of 1956). Welfare Notification dated 24th January, 2018.

AIIMS Kalyani is an Institute of National Importance aimed at addressing the imbalance at three levels – the ratio of regional doctors, specialties and medical doctors to nurses and other health professionals. It intends to develop the pattern of teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in all its branches so as to demonstrate the high standard of medical education in all medical colleges and other affiliated institutions in India
