- Lakme is a local jewel and operates in India as the main market for its business and innovations Lakme operates strongly in both color cosmetics and masstige skin care market and has a dominant equity and trust among the Indian consumers This helps the Lakme business to straddle up the price point and drive premiumness in the market.
- The incumbent will be responsible for managing to deliver future fit technology strategy and roadmap for the Lakme business, that is in line with the growth, sustainability and margin expectations of the category, while delivering product superiority and savings
- The color cosmetics market is about 1(one)Billion Euro in India and is expected to grow at a CAGR of about 14% A reflection of the high growth potential of the India markets for color cosmetics is the arrival of plethora of global competition that has begun establishing retail in India & operating thru e-com channels and the number of such brands has only been increasing in past few years The business also notices significant entry of local brands and growing in this market challenging the potential of existing players market growth
- The Lakme skin care operates in the Masstige space in the market structure pyramid and launches series of innovations across +120 to 180 API Under this space the range would deliver technologies that would differentiates thru sensory, new formats, Trending ingredients, claims.
- Under this context the incumbent will be responsible for managing an integrated end to end innovation capability for advanced design, scaleup capabilities and provide constant churn of innovations that benchmarks against global competitions and aligned to business ambitions
- TheLakmebusinessthrives heavily on Innovations driven and Innovations has been contributing +50% on the Y-o-Y growth numbers for many years now With the absence of any other Unilever design centres, theambitionofthis R&D, ably supported by the local integral team is to simulate, predict innovations, trendsand identifying opportunities enabling quick roll out of new technologies with right quality with minimalmainplanttrials and ensuring quick trouble shooting for existing processes The primary task for the incumbent will be lead this overall agenda, working closely with various functions
- The incumbent will be responsible delivering Planet and People positive agenda for the category and have year wise goals and deliver them
- The incumbent will also be leading the packaging, CTI and processing teams for the category and deliver associated agenda
- The incumbent shall also be part of category specific regulatory challenges that would arise overtime
- The incumbent will be a member of the Skin care leadership team.
DELIVERABLES OF WORK:Technical Capability Development
- Drive R&D key thrusts and 5 Growth Fundamentals strategy
- Drive the disruptive technology program and work seamlessly with Brand Design teams, 3P suppliers, Science & Technology(S&T), Supply Chain (SC), Regulatory and legal teams to deliver new technologies in the market
- Drive 8 quarter innovation plan and iTO delivery and build in innovations that support these ambitions staggered as per plan
- Drive plastic agenda and work seamlessly with SC, procurement, finance, Brand Design, and other R&D design teams for skin care to deliver the needed inputs and technology interventions to meet commitments of innovation and cost efficiency deliverables for the category
- Drive CTI programs on Product Superiority, BA channels content, D4C content creation and build speed agility in product testing and quick launches to market
- WorkseamlesslywithGlobal&localdesignteamsforLakmeSkincaretoidentifyand plan innovations let thru differentiated technology for the category programs
- Relentlessly drive delivered quality of innovations, working closely with SC and CQA to drive and land agreed hardware changes in factory and with special focus on consistency on AOQL, batch to batch shade and performance aspects.
- Collaborate with Science & Technology and especially the Product Engineering teams in Trumbull to ensure seamless transfer of disruptive technologies from S&T to category design
- Manage interdependencies, risks, and trade-offs across functions / stakeholders Proactively identify areas for new claims and demos arising out of new technologies and formats that are being landed in the category
- Build a strong external ecosystem of experts, academics, and experts to further strengthen the program and create strong Advocacy, Authority and Influence for our technologies including external competitive advantage
Complexity Management, Technology and Sustainability Focus:
- Lakme is a complex category business with more than 900 SKUs in the marketplace The incumbent has to lead and manage this complex and challenging program on constant introduction of shades across ranges, formats, SKUs and drive discipline in adhering to all applicable specifications management thru PLM,Blueartworksystems,Globalprocessing network association, global packaging skin care forums and support transformational agenda to Drive Planet & People Goals for the category
- Expertly manage interactions across the matrix organization of Global Design, PMU Design, S&T, SC, CQA and procurement to land some of the key novel technologies and radical innovations.

- Very strong consumer connects and technology understanding of color cosmetics and skin care
- R&D representative for Lakme range quality for India & represent the team
- DeepUnderstanding of consumer needs and habits across markets, formats in order to develop value optimized superior products
- Focus and drive change for new formats and disruptive innovations
REQUIRED SKILL SETS:Key Experience
- Strong Category and/or Cluster Design experience in color cosmetics & Skin Care with at least 5+ years of experience in core Color cosmetics & Skin care technology and processing
- Experience in leading Category / cluster Design projects preferably related to colors cosmetics
- Cross Category or Cross functional experiences and exposure to various functions is desirable
- Clear evidence of leading and driving R&D's contribution to category growth agenda, turning around sticky cells, landing winning formulations in the market
- Evidence for managing and developing talent as well as mentoring and developing key talent and strong stakeholder management and external ecosystem management skills are critical.
- Cross Category/Functional experience and strong evidence for program management with capability building, short-medium-long term development, setting up of global and local ecosystems and collaborations and delivering with impact in market - especially on novel and differentiated technologies is a must
