Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC) was set up by Govt. of Odisha as a statutory body in the year 1994 for carrying out direct recruitment against Group-C & Group-B posts in the State cadre. There are more than 140 different cadres of posts/ services under various Departments of Government against which recruitments are made through this Commission. .
Prior to shifting of the Commission’s office to Unit-V, Bhubaneswar-751054, it was functioning at OFDC building, Buxi Bazar, Cuttack with skeletal staff deputed from different Heads of Departments of Govt. of Odisha.
The Commission is headed by the Chairman aided by three Members. They are appointed by the Government of Odisha and are governed by Rules regulating their recruitment and conditions of service as framed by Govt. from time to time. The Commission is accountable to the General Administration & Public Grievance Department of Government in administrative and financial matters. Secretary is the Head of Office and assisting officials are the Joint Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Under Secretary, Administrative Officer, Accounts Officer, Private Secretary, Establishment Officer, Section Officer, Assistant Section Officers, Statistical Assistant, Junior Assistants, Stenographers, Typists etc. Chairman is vested with the authority to dispose of matters pertaining to discharge of the Commission’s mandate, and its smooth functioning.
