The SMI consultant will collaborate with R&D organizations, IT, and vendors to clarify and communicate business requirements, identify, and implement future state process improvements, and be responsible for the overarching data surrounding inventory Key to this role will be gathering critical information from stakeholders across R&D and effectively communicating insights and plans across the organization The SMI Consultant will have the following responsibilities:
- Help build the strategy for Inventory tools within the Scilligence space and being an active member of the Operations Team
- Collecting and documenting workflows to facilitate ordering materials and integrating restrictions for sample management
- Ensuring data from partner sample management companies flow smoothly into Elanco systems.
- Collecting requirements from customers who are using Inventory systems
- Keep track of labware inventory and facilitate labware orders
- Responsible for managing the integration of multiple inventories into a 'single source' of inventory within both the research compound space and clinical trials space
- Working closely with the corporate registrar to ensure inventory is correctly captured at time of registration
- Ensuring the barcode strategy and labeling strategies are enforced and maintained within Elanco R&D.
- Consult with scientists, vendors, and IT to design eLN connections to inventory, plate mapping, inventory workflows, and add-ins, to facilitate sample ordering and integration
- Maintaining Sample Management workflows in Scilligence
- Partner with R&D to communicate the value of Sample Management and help drive change, and keep continuity, across the R&D community's electronic logistics spaces(ELN, Inventory, Registration, SDMS, LIMS, BioAssay)
- Help create the strategic roadmap for the Scilligence tools stack including future capabilities and enhancements
- Create and maintain SOP and Job Aid documentation for Elanco's usage of inventory systems.
- Manage day to day needs for inventory Ie Ensure customs/shipper paperwork is completed when needed
- Help administer the Scilligence Inventory system to include ensuring the appropriate people have access to experiments/data necessary to do their work
- Serve as the functional expert in restriction policies
- Design reports to meet the needs of Elanco R&D.
- Deep understanding of how Sample Management, Registration, and the eLN work together for successful experimentation
The SMI Consultant will additionally:
- Consult with scientists on inventory needs
- Serve as a Scilligence Business SME, among a group of SMEs
- Understand Scilligence data and integrations across the R&D organization
- Manage and report technical issues for Scilligence and its integrations for inventory needs.
- Understand and consult on downstream usage of Scilligence Inventory data into internal systems
- Partner with Elanco organizations and enable business outcomes
- Develop best practices, and job aids relating to this SME role
- Manage validation efforts of Inventory work, to include completion of testing tasks
- Analyze future project ideas and leading their implementation.
Global Operations (GO) works closely with many areas including R&D, Regulatory, IT, Legal, and Health and Safety GO is focused on providing a center of excellence to our R&D customers and Contract Research OrganizationsAdditional Skills/Preferences:
- Good understanding of chemistry functions to include the various disciplines within chemistry ie.
Formulations, Analytical, and MedChemor interested in learning - Good understanding of large molecule development, including vaccine developmentor interested in learning
- Manage change and lifecycle management for the Scilligence products
- Collaborate with management and key customers to identify business problems to meet business needs

Basic Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or Computer Science
- 10 years of eLN experience
- 10 years of inventory and shipping experience
- 10 year of experience with database querying tools(SQL or SQLServer)
- Understanding of scientific data and how used.
- 10 years of experience collecting requirements from scientific customers
- Comfortable working with large and small molecule scientists
- 8+ years of experience in validating GxP systems
- Understanding of modern security concepts relating to software development
