- Within 30 days of employment, you will become competent with VMware's development environment, guidelines and standard practices
- Within 90 days of employment, you will start resolving internal customer technical issues through reproduction and troubleshooting
- Within 120 days of employment, you will be in a position to start working on external customer issues.
- Within 180 days along with the above, you will be collaborating with other engineering partners in gathering product requirements and start designing and implementing system software for the virtualization platform for use in our virtualization products (ESXi, Cloud solutions, Fusion and Workstation)
The Work: What type of work will you be doing What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basisYour regular activities may be modified to suit your professional strengths, but you can expect a variety of the following assignments:
- Work on interfaces with the virtual machine monitor, storage and device emulation on ESXi, Linux, Mac OS and Windows kernels
- Contribute to the virtual disk infrastructure interfacing with datastores and filesystems supported by ESXi, which include VSAN, VVOL, NFS and VMFS
- Provide OS independent systems abstractions such as threading primitives, locking models and memory management
- Assist team members in investigating internally and externally reported storage issues using OS internals experience, understanding of storage I/O architecture, including filesystems, disk/storage technologies andNVMe/SATA/ATA/SAS/SCSI/iSCSI/FC storage protocols.
- Work closely with team in evaluating virtual disk enhancements needed by VMware's product groups
- Contribute ideas for new features and services for our multi-cloud platform
- Write design and functional specifications for new features
