Belgaum Cantonment was established in the year 1832. The Cantonment comprises of two zones viz., the main Cantonment and the Fort zone. The Cantonment is situated at a height of 2497 above M.S.L. The average Rainfall is 137 cm. The maximum Temperature is 36℃ and the minimum temperature is 20℃. This healthy climate enchanted the Europeans and even today it is known as the poor mans hill station. The Sahyadri mountain range known as the Western Ghat cut across Belgaum.
