Purpose of your roleAs a Software Engineer for B2B eCommerce you will work with global, multi-functional, teams to support the strategic development of our self-service B2B eCommerce Magento platform This new digital channel will eventually support $6+ million of annual revenue from across the world Your key focus will be supporting the Lead Software Engineer to deliver against a backlog maintained and refined by the Product Owner You will also collaborate on solution design / implementation with our Magento Architect as we continue to expand the capabilitiesOur core platform technology is based on Adobe Magento (v2) which is integrated with our standard up-stream Elsevier sales, customer and product management systems (inc.

Salesforce Sales Cloud), and down-stream order management / fulfilment engines New and enhanced functionality will leverage Magento 2 capabilities as much as possible and you will be working on the most appropriate lean, creative and optimal application of standard configuration and modular extension to meet business needs over bespoke development complexityYour success will be measured by delivering a robust, scalable, and maintainable platform that marries efficiency with speed and flexibility to address fast evolving business needsYour key accountability and responsibility

• Responsible for turning prioritised backlog items into released features
• Responsible for providing product and technology expertise when scoping work.
  
  
• Responsible for ensuring up to date, appropriate platform documentation is available, and knowledge is shared with the team
• Working on individual pieces of work, solving problems including the design of the program flow of individual pieces of code, effective coding, and unit testing
• Work closely with other development team members to understand moderately complex product requirements and translate them into software designs
• Write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of system components
• Participate in development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews.
  
  
• Resolve technical issues as necessary
• Complete bug fixes
• Keep abreast of new technology developments

Your most important qualities

• Passion for developing on successful global eCommerce platforms by making the complex simple and putting the customer need at the heart of what you do

• Problem-solving experience involving identifying, researching, and coordinating the resources necessary to effectively troubleshoot/diagnose complex project issues

• Good interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and presentation skills applicable to a wide audience including your team, other technology teams and business stakeholders, using assorted communication mediums

Recommended experience

• 3+ years of experience in software engineering
• Experience of working with other internal development teams.
  
  
• Knowledge of Magento 2 with demonstrable experience in delivering enterprise scale eCommerce capability
• Experience of Magento's B2B functionality
• Proven ability to resolve complex technical challenges in a platform context
• Understanding of Magento's capabilities (inc multiple sites/stores/views, cross-selling capability, currency and tax, subscription-based and digital products, promotions/trials/bundles, etc).
  
  
• Knowledge of Magento Plugins and their effective selection from the Marketplace and/or custom design and implementation
• Experience in the effective integration of Magento with other up/down-stream business systems (inc inventory/product feeds, payment gateways, fulfilment chains, CMS, etc)
